The Wednesday Wars

by Gary D. Schmidt
4 out of 5 stars

This is a fun read and a great feel-good book set in an era people seem to enjoy romanticizing. Like his other book, Okay for Now, Schmidt's main character is very likable, witty, and mostly surrounded by good people who want to help him. The relationship he has with his teacher, Mrs. Baker, is really sweet even if it’s not entirely believable (sure, there are lots of junior high boys who get into Shakespeare...right?). However, as YA fiction goes, I give Wednesday Wars two thumbs up. It's one of those books you think about and look forward to continuing when you're doing other things.
